Ever since I learned how to quilt, I've wanted to create my own designs. When I discovered how to create fusible applique designs from my own photos, my levels of creativity, inspiration, and originality soared.
Over the years I tried many different techniques. Through trial and error, I developed my own low-tech variation using paper and pencils as my primary tools. By sharing my techniques, my goal is to provide you the same level of inspiration that I found. After completing this Photo to Applique course, you will have the freedom and skills to make your own original designs from your photos.
This course is designed for beginners, but also offers plenty of material to help advance the skills of more experienced textile artists. Lessons contain a short introduction and video tutorials which demonstrate my process step-by-step.
As a bonus, this course includes detailed instruction on using photo editing software to help create your patterns. Don't worry! If you're not comfortable using the computer software, you can skip those lessons and use the low-tech options.

How is the class material presented?
This course is presented primarily as video-based instruction. Each lesson starts with a short written introduction and features a detailed video of the techniques. Every video is designed with an up-close view, so every student has a front row seat.
What skill level is required for this course?
This course was designed for beginners and includes step-by-step instruction. However, more advanced textile or mixed-media students will find plenty of information and inspiration to keep them engaged. Advanced students, might enjoy the detailed instruction on photo-editing software. Every student will be inspired to take their skills further to create their own unique designs.
When does this course begin and end?
This is a self-paced course which is ready for viewing as soon as your payment (through Teachable.com) is completed. After you enroll you'll have full access to all the lessons and course material. Work through the course at your own pace and return to it whenever you need a refresher.
Does the course require any special computer software?
To view the course you will need is access to the internet. This course includes bonus lessons with detailed video tutorials for using photo-editing software to create applique patterns from photographs. However, these programs are not required. Easy, low-tech options are also included in the course material.
Do I need high speed internet for this course?
Each lesson of this course contains video-based instruction. It is strongly advised that students use a stable, high speed internet service to view the course material. Slow internet connections will likely cause data drag and other streaming issues.
How long do I have access to this course?
